Tag Archives: smoothie in a bowl

The First Aid class I taught today went really well! I was done after only three and a half hours and all of the students really seemed to enjoy the class. Those are obviously great things. Not so great, I had to buy a $6 bottle of Advil with about 5 pills in it. I don’t want to talk about it.

I’ve been completely obsessed with a couple applications on my iPhone. Like every other blogger, I’m obsessed with Instagram, and you should be too. It’s an application that you can use to take pictures and edit them to have different effects, or just edit the pictures you already have on your phone.

I’m also obsessed with Fooducate. It includes a barcode scanner to scan for products, grades them and explains the grade. I love that it explains what each additive in the food is and why it can be harmful.

Fooducate also offers alternative products that have a higher rating and are similar to the product you searched for.

I’m not sure if these applications are available on every phone, but I definitely recommend them. Instagram is a fun, playful application and Fooducate is a helpful and interesting tool for watching what we eat. I don’t pay attention to the calorie portion of the application, but knowing what is in my food is really important to me and the barcode scanner makes searching for foods really simple.

Smoothie in a Bowl!! I really think I’m obsessed with these. Smoothies are slowly becoming my favorite food. Is that weird? It’s so strange, after I drink a smoothie I suddenly feel energized & in such a better mood.

(recycled picture but it looked pretty similar)

The Mix:

6 ice cubes

1 handful spinach

1/2 cup greek yogurt

1 cup milk

1/2 banana (ran out of frozen ones & forgot to put new ones in the freezer)

1.5 cup frozen fruit

1 tbsp peanut butter (blended in)

granola for topping

I also took advantage of Gap’s 40% off promo. 40% off all sale items! I’m addicted to online shopping!!

What are your favorite phone applications?

What are you obsessed with?

What I Ate Wednesday #2

The only thing that sounded good this morning at 6am was a big yogurt bowl.

The Mix:

greek yogurt

clustery granola

sunflower butter (duh)

I haven’t been adding agave lately because I am starting to like the tartness of greek yogurt. My taste buds are getting used to less sweetener!

Today the summer camp I work for went on a field trip right next to a Mexican restaurant, so we ran over there on our break. I got a small cheese quesadilla, which I didn’t have time to snap a photo of. I haven’t had a quesadilla in forever…reminds me why I love cheese so much!!

Once I got home from work I ate a quick smoothie in a bowl before my meeting and it was greeeeeeeeeeen!!!

The Mix:

almond milk

1/2 frozen banana

frozen pineapple

vanilla extract

Topped with:

sunflower butter

I honestly never thought I would get into the “smoothie in a bowl” trend, but I’m obsessed! They really do fill me up, especially with oats in them (check back tomorrow a.m. for a new smoothie recipe)

After my meeting, I came home to eggplant parm. I didn’t make it, but I’m pretty sure there was eggplant, marinara sauce, mushrooms, onions, a little ground beef and……..cheese!! I normally am not a fan of mushrooms or onions, but I’ll eat anything covered in cheese!

Sorry this post was so short & to the point but I’m exhausted from work and I get to wake up at 5:30 am to sign up for classes, even though I don’t work until 9:30! It’s going to be a long day…but check back tomorrow morning for a new smoothie recipe! Mmmmmmmm

Have a great night!

A Week on the Road!

Iiiiiiiiiiiits Friday!!!!!!

First things first….breakfast! Today’s breakfast was a bit of a repeat from yesterday. Copy cat!! Except it didn’t taste anything like it. When I woke up, I couldn’t shake off the sleepies quick enough and my smoothie turned into a mess. It had way too much almond breeze. Do you guys ever pick up a gallon of juice or milk and go to add it to a recipe, then realize you have an awkward amount left in the carton? Should I just throw the rest into my recipe or put it back in the fridge….well I put it in the recipe. Not so good. Also there was no banana..and I can’t make a smoothie without banana! That’s just weird!! Hopefully this bad luck ends this morning. I have a big day ahead of me.

The Mix:

1 cup frozen fruit (berries, pineapple, mango, peaches)

1 cup milk

1 tbsp peanut butter (mixed in this time)

1/3 cup oats

1/4 cup plain greek yogurt

small squirt of agave

splash of vanilla

1/4 cup granola (for topping)

I also wanted  to mention that today I am leaving for a roadtrip! I will be gone until July 8th traveling to a few different places!! I can’t wait to share my pictures and adventures with you all. It’ll be a loooooong drive tomorrow though, so tonight’s post will be pretty early and uneventful! Stick with me this week…posts won’t be formatted the same but I promise they’ll be fun!

I hope you all have a great day!

What are your weekend plans?

So Berry Good

Today for breakfast I made a smoothie in a bowl. I was worried it wouldn’t fill me up, but it was delicioussss. This was the best smoothie I’ve had in a long time.

The Mix:

1/2 cup frozen berry mix (strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry)

1/3 cup raw rolled oats

1/4 cup plain greek yogurt

3/4 cup almond breeze (unsweetened)

sprinkle of flax seeds

1/4 of a frozen banana

small squirt of agave

teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/4 cup honey almond granola

1 tbsp peanut butter

I ate this smoothie (weird saying ate instead of drank!) with a side of hot coffee…yum! I never drank coffee everyday until last year. I would order a tall nonfat misto with hazelnut syrup every morning (sometimes multiple times a day) from Starbucks. Eventually I stopped ordering the syrup with it and just sprinkled some cinnamon into my drink. I can’t stand the sweet syrups anymore, it’s funny how our taste buds change! Now, I rarely ever visit coffee shops because my parents roast their own coffee beans so I have my own coffeshop-quality coffee right in my kitchen! Sometimes I add a little milk into my coffee, but about 90% of the time I just drink it black. Skipping my morning trip to Starbucks has definitely saved me some money the past couple of months! I never knew how much I was spending there until I started tracking it…about $35 a week!! That’s $140 a month!! Craziness.

What do you order at coffee shops?

I’ll be back tonight with some ice cream talk. Luckily the weather is so much nicer than it has been the past couple of days!!
